Boosting The Efficiency Of Your HVAC System: Six Tips

Homeowners are always looking for ways to save money, and improving an HVAC system’s efficiency is one of the best ways to do that. Not only will it increase energy savings, it also makes a home more comfortable. Follow these six strategies to make sure you get the most out of your heating and cooling equipment.

Change Your Air Filters Regularly
If dust and other particulates captured by the filter are allowed to accumulate for too long, they will form a thick screen that is difficult for air to pass through. This requires more energy to push air through and lowers your overall comfort level. Change them regularly to avoid this problem.

Install a Programmable Thermostat
These give you precise control over how much energy you are using and when, even when you are not at home. They protect you from having to pay to keep an unoccupied home comfortable while you are away, but also save you from having to return to an uncomfortable home.

Close Vents In Unused Rooms
This will help guide air to the areas that actually need it and will reduce the overall workload for your HVAC system. This will help extend the longevity of your system by not exposing it to as much wear and tear.

Unclog Your Condensate Drain
Shove a stiff wire through the drains to break up any blockage that may be causing your HVAC system to perform inefficiently. This helps to improve the dehumidification of your air.

Seal Your Air Ducts
As much as 20 percent of your conditioned air can leak out your ductwork as it is distributed before it ever reaches the supply vents. Use a duct mastic to seal gaps, leaks and holes.

Schedule Preventive Maintenance
An inspection of all the components in your heating and cooling equipment will help deliver the best comfort results as well as keep you as energy efficient as possible.
