During the peak of Ohio's pollen season, there's a good chance you're going to want to allergy-proof your home. It's an important precaution if you don't the rest of your summer to be as uncomfortable as the first part, and there are some easy steps you can take. The most important place for you to start is the bedroom.
If too much dust is an issue in your bedroom, one thing you can do is get zip-on dust-mite covers for your mattress and pillows. You spend as much as a third of the day in your bed, so you might as well make sure it's allergy-proof first. Another thing that's helpful in the bedroom during allergy season is replacing your carpeting with hardwood or another type of flooring. This will keep you from kicking things like dust, pollen and pet dander up into the air.
The bedroom isn't the only place in the home that you should allergy-proof, though. Putting doormats at each entryway is always a good idea, and so is having guests take off their shoes whenever they enter the house. This prevents them from bringing unwanted irritants into your home. Some other things you can do are:
- Upgrade to a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter
- Regularly change your HVAC system air filters
- Clean your bathroom of mold on a regular basis
- Use machine-washable curtains, rather than drapes
If you follow these simple steps, you'll be right on the path toward an allergy-free home, and a pleasant final several weeks of summer. For all of your HVAC and plumbing needs in the Mid-Ohio area, keep Joe Behr Plumbing and Heating in mind.
